"I have not said to do the work of a catechist, but rather to be one, because it involves all your life. It means guiding toward the encounter with Jesus with word and with life, with your witness."
-Pope Francis, on what it means to be a catechist.

"The catechist is a witness of faith and keeper of the memory of God … a teacher and a mystagogue … an accompanier and educator. '"
-USCCB
A catechist is someone who teaches in the name of the Catholic Church. Catechists are called to live, love, and teach as Jesus did, and are also known as missionary disciples. Their role is to catechize the faith of the Catholic Church through word and example, sharing their faith commitment through prayer, liturgy, experience, and word. Catechists are responsible for introducing people to the truths of faith, which they themselves have learned, lived, and celebrated. They also lead others to know Jesus Christ through their actions.
